April 2014 Meeting Minutes

@ The Home Brewery

11 in attendance

7:50 Open

In order to expedite meetings the old business/treasury report/most updates will be done online, unless there are specific interests in certain subjects.

Also we are asking that home brew be labeled with at least brewers name and style of brew. This can be anything as simple as masking tape and sharpie.

8:05 Mother’s Day @ Mother’s is coming up as well as Big Brew Day. If you have interest in either contact one of the officers.

8:07 Keeping up with the website. This is a tricky one, as we all have lives (somewhat) outside of the club. Ben is working with Keith W. to help bring it up to speed.

8:10 Saison themed education portion and tastings with Chris B.

8:25 Close for social period.

Leadership Minutes 8/3/13

8/3/13 Officers Meeting

Location: Springfield Brewing Company

Attendance: Ben (Pres.), Michael (PR Director), Keith B. (V.Pres.), Todd (Treasurer), Keith W. (Secretary).

Time Opened: 9:35 AM

Discussion of planning a tour of White River Brewing for dues members, Octoberish.

Discussion of Club T-shirts. More info to come as to logo and placement, color, batch order vs. order to have on hand, importance of identifying marker at events, etc. Urging to be brought up at membership meeting.

Judging for Art of Darkness competition was discussed briefly as to who had been confirmed and still pending, current entry #’s, storage of entries.

Discussion of upcoming events: Ozarks Beerfest 2013, Nov 23rd. With the new law passed pertaining to home brew, it looks as if we will be able to pour at this event under a blanket type permit. Discussed importance of participation, as well as importance of kegs over bottles for serving purposes. Discussion on rotating taps to keep interest up. More to come as more info arises, but participation is needed to get our name out there and spread the word of home brewing and the love of craft beer.

Adjourned: 9:55 am

Leadership Minutes 7/8/13

Zymurgists of the Ozarks Leadership Meeting Minutes

Title:   Leadership Meeting
Location:   Old Chicago
Date:   07/08/2013
Time:  8:00pm

In attendance: Ben (Pres), Keith (VP), Randy (Secretary), Kassidy (Media Director), Michael(PR Director)

Officers: Ben (Pres), Michael (PR Director), Keith (VP), Randy (Secretary), Todd (Treasurer), Kassidy (Media Director)

Randy has resigned his position as secretary.  He provided the attendance sheets from the past two meetings to be handed to his successor following appointment or election at the July meeting.

-Kassidy has been actively promoting the competition through social media and directly to clubs in the area.  She believes it is going very well and that our participation will be very high at the Fall competition.
-There has been a lot of excitement surrounding Mother’s Brewing Company’s involvement with The Art of Darkness competition and it has driven a lot of interest in entering the competition.
-Keith has registered the competition formally with the AHA and BJCP and has paid the entry fee of $30.  He will bring a receipt to be reimbursed to the July membership meeting.  Keith provided the following updates, as well:
• The competition will be held on 9/7/2013 (has since been amended to later date, but this will be reflected in membership meeting minutes)
• Todd Rock will be judging as an official BJCP judge on behalf of the ZOO.
• Mother’s will be sending four judges: Jeremy Wicks, Brian Allen, Dave Soper (cellarman), and Doug Riddle
• Keith is currently working to secure as many official BJCP judges as possible.
o We are considering letting Mother’s be the BOS panel alone, since they are awarding the grand prize.

The Geeks With Beer podcast went well.  Members present were Keith, Kassidy, and Michael, and they felt it was good PR for the club and a lot of fun, as well.

Craft Beer Bash: We’ll need volunteers to man the booth.  Todd Frye will brew representing The Home Brewery, so we will not be brewing, but will be using the opportunity to reach out to craft beer fans about home brewing and the mission of the club.

We are investigating whether it will be legal to pour beer, and whether the organizers would be interested in us doing so.  Currently, this does not appear to be likely.

Meeting adjourned: 9:45pm

Mother’s Day at the Mothers Brewery:  May 18th 1-6pm.  Ben will contact Mothers and work out the details.  We will more than likely not be brewing due to the nature of the event.  We do need to have printed materials and brewing samples available.

Happy Birthday Springfield:  April 27th on the Square 11am-5pm, Sponsored by TAG.  TAG has reserved us a spot.  Kassidy will be brewing an extract beer.  We need volunteers to help man the booth.  Please contact Kassidy.

Big Brew Day/Zoo Family BBQ/Homebrew Store open house:  May 4th at the Homebrew Store in Ozark.  Brewers can arrive anytime after 10:00am.  Family BBQ from 3-6pm.  All members need to bring a dish.  We need volunteers to brew at the following times:

10:00am – All Grain

12:00am – Extract or All Grain (Ben)

2:00pm – Extract

We want to do this in stages so there is someone brewing all the time.

Promotional Ideas:  Kassidy will look into the prices of promotional items and T-shirts.

ZOO Flyers:  Keith will look into the price of printing this from a actual printer versus printing them at home.

Medals:  All medals have been sent out to our winners from our last competition.  Keith is looking into the price of creating a medal that is our actual logo instead of a generic medal with our name printed on it.

BJCP certification:  We will start looking into setting classes up

Banner:  Keith as approval to order a 6’x2.5 foot banner

Membership cards:  The design has been approved.  Ed is looking into adding a QR code.  This will be completed by the May meeting.

Fall Competition:  Talk with Mothers to see if they would be interested in taking the winners brew to GABF pro-am.  We need more interest in the Competition Comittee.

Hoppy St Patrick’s:  We need to follow up with Aston and find out if he is for sure taking our BOS to the GABF pro-am.
